NEW VIDEO: HO scale Red Arrow Brilliner interurban trolley at full blast

My Red Arrow Brilliner running at full speed. This video takes the place of the first one I made that was too dark. In 1941 the JG Brill Co. of Philadelphia, PA produced it’s last 10 rail cars with these double-ended Brilliner interurban cars for the nearby Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Co., better known as “Red Arrow.” The Brilliner was Brill’s attempt to compete with the immensly popular PCC streetcar, although Brill did bid on Philadelphia Rapid Transit’s first order of PCC cars but lost to St. Louis. Had these cars been built they would have been identical to the single-ended Brilliner streetcar, but with Clark B-2 trucks instead of Brill’s own trucks. Only 40 Brilliners were built: 25 for Atlantic City, 10 for Red Arrow, 3 for Philadelphia, and a prototype for Baltimore and a prototype for Cincinnati. After Red Arrow’s cars were built Brill turned its attention to building buses and trackless trolleys, or trolley-buses. Read the rest of this entry »
